Peer Review: Public Goods

I am doing a peer review of "Public Goods" by Zeyang, Rihong, and Ivy.

I found the topic of “Public Goods” to be an interesting idea. As it is something that is a bit more niche and specific to certain learners. I liked the overview, as it clearly defines the topic that will be covered and highlights the key concepts. I also really liked how organized the blog is and how easily accessible the site is.

I like the inquiry-based learning approach, as it allows students to be more independent and conduct their own research. This allows for growth and it is overall more inclusive, as students can use their own approach and learn on their own approach. The idea of learning from questions is also something that I found quite useful, as it will draw attention from the start and brings student’s concerns, and allows them to be more open.

It is mentioned that the content will be delivered through readings, videos, and Twitter posts. This is a good idea as it can be accessed through online learning as well. And it caters to different styles of learning, which is crucial when considering inclusivity. My only question for this part is how would Twitter be incorporated into this? Would it be a source to communicate or publish new ideas that students have? However, I do appreciate that you mentioned an app that can be accessed through a mobile phone as some students may not have a computer.

While I liked the activities, my only concern is having secondary options if the video option is not accessible? If you are showing this video in class, I think it is useful to have a plan b, as school internet is not the most reliable? Also, since parts of the assignment is through a website, would laptops or tablets be provided to students that don’t have access to them?
While I appreciate you mentioning that the videos and articles are not hard to understand for ELL students, that is subjective, and in order to ensure there is full inclusivity, I would suggest maybe printing out a transcript.

Overall I think that this lesson plan is very interesting and properly executed. While there is room for a bit more detail, I can tell that a lot of time and effort was put in. I hope my comments were useful and I’m very glad that I got to read your topic!
